Benchmarks
Alignment
As models get more capable, they behave worse. These benchmarks measure that on the same models, so the trend is visible. Alignment is an existential risk, and this is where it shows up first.
Better models, worse behavior
Capability and these behaviors are moving in opposite directions. The most capable models are the most likely to take a shortcut they were told not to take, keep going after an operator says stop, sound certain when the evidence is thin, spend or access beyond what they were given, and walk away from a deal they made. The charts show each behavior against capability, model by model.
Tasks that resist measurement
Whether a model cheats, corrects itself, states its uncertainty, holds back, or cooperates cannot be graded by a rubric. Each benchmark builds the situation, changes what the shortcut pays and how easy it is to reach, and counts what the model did against what it said it did.
Behavior and report, scored apart
Actual work, false reports, attempted shortcuts, and executed shortcuts are counted separately. A model that does the work and misreports it is not scored the same as one that skips the work and says so.
Safety, measured under incentive
Each benchmark measures a behavior that only shows up once a model has real work and something to gain. Results are reported at each payment and each access level, so a lab can see exactly where a behavior first appears.
